It might be interesting to consider flow/optimal experience - initially coined by Csikszentmihalyi & now ubiquitous in many high performance environments - here, as well. I am very interested in mêtis & openness, especially when considered as an “old way” of being, only recently forgotten in humanity’s over dependence on logos/left hemisphere recently.

A friend linked me this, not knowing that I had just written about it myself. A useful reference to keep in the toolkit and point people at if they're not familiar.

I think the most critical insight I gleaned in my own reading, which I sadly omitted when I wrote on it, is that *metis doesn't scale*. Not normally, anyways.

Very intrigued by your hemispheric approach. I'll have to think on it.

absolutely, metis doesn't scale and it doesn't generalize -- two very important aspects of it that unfortunately make it constantly dismissed by modernity

It seems you speak of whole brain functioning that has in it belly, heart and head centers actively functioning. Instinctual guts, intuitive hearts, open minds in awareness not thinking about stuff. There’s a centeredness plus an open expansiveness that is of our natural state.

It seems martial artists get into this state as part of their initiations through levels of adept-ship.

There are many things involved, many properties, qualities and dimensions of our true nature involved.

Having it become established as our modus operandi is indicative of the essential person, being of Being. No one can attain it. It’s natural. We unlearn how not to be such. It requires relaxed alertness, total Presence in the immediacy and spontaneous arising of the moment in our open receptive state right dynamically with our active fully engaged state — the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of our autonomic nervous system fully functional. Not one or the other but both plus the recognition of what Is aware, Awareness that is both localized and nonlocal at once.

There’s much more to it. You could describe it as mystical embodiment in action as Indwelling Presence. The I Am that we are Is what is capable in the natural state that is This LightHearted living Mystery.

It’s the play of consciousness and we came to play. Part of that play is to confront and grapple with the causes of human insanity, deep wounded suffering being acted out. Part of the reason for this is, as you’re pointing out, the disconnection from metis.

So glad you’ve found it. Keep on living it and reporting your discoveries, please. ✌️🫶🙏
